05:45 · First light
The Chambal is still and silver at this hour. Take your chai to a riverside sit-out and watch the migratory birds come in low over the water.

06:30 · Morning safari
Your jeep heads into Ranthambore National Park, home of the Bengal tiger, the leopard and the sloth bear – booked ahead through the Forest Department's official website.

10:00 · Late breakfast
Back at the lodge, breakfast waits on the veranda – fruit, fresh vegetables from the farm and around 90% of everything sourced from the villages nearby.

13:00 · The long afternoon
The heat slows everything down. Rest in a hand-decorated tent, swim in the garden pool, or read beneath the old trees until the light softens.

16:30 · On the water
Drift towards the crocodile sanctuary, looking for gharials and muggers basking on the sandbanks, and kingfishers along the reeds.

18:00 · Sundown
Settle into a cane lounger on the bank as the sun goes down over the water. This is the hour guests remember.

20:00 · Night
Lanterns are lit along the paths and the fire pits come alive. Dinner is served beneath the canopy, with the river somewhere out in the dark.

Ranthambore tiger safari
Ranthambore National Park is one of the best places in India to see a tiger in the wild, along with leopards, sloth bears and sambar deer. Jeep and canter safaris run in morning and afternoon slots and are booked through the Rajasthan Forest Department's official website – book early in peak season, as permits sell out.

Chambal crocodile safari
Take a boat ride on the Chambal to the crocodile sanctuary and look for gharials and mugger crocodiles basking on the sandbanks, with kingfishers and other river birds along the reeds. It's the perfect afternoon between two park safaris.
